Homage is the translation of the title associated with the oeuvre exhibition of British photographer Jimmy Hey, Nelsonliving in the Netherlands. I think thatsa wonderful title for exhibition with insanely beautiful pictures. The exhibition presents a selection of portraits of indigenous peoples who are in danger of disappearing. Hey, Nelsonhas traveled the world to photograph communities in the most remote places in their traditional doings in the most pure way possible. With his photographs, he wants to make people aware of the cultural diversity that exists and the extent to which it is threatened by increasingly advancing technology and globalisation. The exhibition can be seen in the Museum aan de Vrijthof in Maastricht and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 17:30.
Years ago I saw Jimmy Hey, Nelsonon television if I'm not mistaken at Ivo Niehe - but don't pin me on that - and I was so impressed by his pictures that I fell in love with them instantly. He also made a wonderful book or actually books that I would like to put on my wish list if they weren't so pricey. They were at the exhibition and I am going to see if there is not a possibility to get them in my possession because they are really great and certainly justify the prize.
