For example, one sunny day, I stumbled upon a lovely wooden cabinet. It was just dropped to the side of the road. It did look dirty and called for a refurbishment.
It took me a while to find the time to get started. It had been in the garage for so long and we put it outside. It was a wonderful day. I immediately started washing the cabinet well with water to get all the dirt and old stain off.
I treated stains and stains that did not disappear immediately with green soap.
After that, I rinsed the whole cabinet thoroughly.

Washing dishes not only has a cleansing effect. Due to the water, the surface fibers swell. Many small imperfections disappear as a result. In addition, the wood absorbs stain or primer better afterwards.
However, for further processing, the wood must be completely dry.

So the closet had to be returned to the garage for a day or two.

However, old layers of paint are not so easy to remove. You have to do this with bite off, which is applied with the brush. You remove the paint layer with a putty knife.

But with this cabinet, that was not necessary.
It had to be stained.
But before applying this product with a special pickling brush, the wood must be sanded with a fine sandpaper.
Then the stain is put on, wet in wet, or in one go. This prevents edges or strips from drying a lot faster than the rest.

Then you wash the wood.
Wax comes in various thicknesses.
The wax is also applied with a brush or rubbed into the wood with a cloth. You should always rub in the direction of the fibers. Wax gives the wood a warm shiny shade.

Antique wax for different types of wood is available for refurbishing old pieces of furniture.

For future refurbishments, you should release the old wax with fine steel wool. Then apply a new layer of wax.
