How do you stimulate the senses and discover different materials?
It's quite a bit. children grow up in their lives with lots of incentives. Not just incentives, but stimuli that stimulate various senses! Think: feel, taste, smell, see, hear. These are many types of sensory sensations that can also have different effects on a child.
Why those incentives?? To learn to explore the world, a child learns through. incentives. How do you know what to do with it if you can't hold or feel it?? Think eg. to sand. Kids play with their fingers in the sand. They feel the structure and motility of loose sand. If you add water, the structure changes to a more solid mass. That gives another sensation. It feels cold and wet and darker in colour. If you drop a piece of mud into the water, it splashes apart again and becomes smooth loose sand.
* What can you discover with sand/mud/ water? Thickness of material, soft or hardness of structure. How fast can you change it when you add water?? How does it feel on your skin?
* What can you discover with paint? What colors are? What happens when you mix them?? How does paint feel and what can you do with it? What materials can you use the paint (think: small ball in box and paint, plastic bag and paint, sponges or corks in the paint etc.
* What can you do with snow? You can feel cold with your hand. You can also play with it like sand, even though it's firmer. What happens if you hold it on your hand?? Melt it? What happens if you eg. dye on snow does etc.
