How Does Ketosis Work
If you are on a low-carb diet, do it because you want to lose weight by ketosis. But how does ketosis actually work?
Ketosis is a process in your body that burn/degrades fat. If body fat is broken down, ketones are released into your bloodstream. To get into ketosis (fat burning), eat a lot less carbohydrates (20 - 40 grams per day). It then takes about 48 hours for you to be in the fat-burning phase/ketosis.
If you remove/reduce the carbohydrates from the diet and replace them with fats and proteins, the body needs to adapt to it. The main source of energy, the carbohydrates, is no longer present.
Normally, your body uses carbohydrates to produce energy. Because you take less carbohydrates, your body uses your fats. Not only the fats you get through your diet, but also the fat on your body!
