Hair grows from hair follicles (follicles) that are in the skin. Each hair follicle produces keratin, a protein that is the most important building block of hair, just like nails. Hair growth takes place in several stages:

How does your hair grow?

  • Anagen phase (growth phase) : This is the active growth phase that can last 2 to 7 years. The hair root produces keratin cells, which are pushed out by the hair follicle and thus form the hair shaft that we see.
  • Catagen phase (transition phase) : This phase lasts several weeks. Hair growth stops and hair follicles slowly begin to shrink.
  • Telogen phase (resting phase) : In this phase, which lasts about 3 months, the hair rests. Eventually, the hair falls out and a new cycle begins as the hair follicle starts a hair growth process again.

  • Where does the material in your hair come from?

Hair consists mainly of keratin , the same protein that also forms nails and skin. Keratin is produced by the cells in the hair root, just like in the nail matrix in nails. The raw materials for keratin, such as amino acids, are supplied via the blood and come from food. Nutrients such as protein, vitamins (especially biotin, vitamin D), and minerals (such as iron and zinc) are important for healthy hair growth.
