Goldfish are the most popular ornamental fish because of their eye-catching vivid colours. They are native to temperate climates and may be found in the wild in chilly streams, lakes, and ponds across Asia and portions of Eastern Europe. They are found in different varieties in terms of color, size and bodily patterns. Goldfish are gregarious and clever animals. They can interact with one another and their human carers, whom they may learn to recognize. Goldfish have an average lifespan of 15-20 years, with some types surviving up to 30 years if someone cares for them properly. Unfortunately, many goldfish do not live to their life owing to poor living circumstances.

Carp may live for up to ten years in the wild, although they are more likely to survive for four or five owing to the hazards of predation, disease, and competition with other fish. In a tank of at least 50 gallons, they can live in captivity for 10-14 years. Proper tank conditions, plenty of room to develop, and a well-balanced feed make all the difference.

Fancy goldfish are double-tailed varieties that have been selected for their attractive appeal. Telescope, Fringetail, Bubble Eye, and many more are examples. Their longevity is determined by the breed and the degree of care they receive. Some goldfish will require more specialized care than others. Some goldfish that have been highly modified, such as the Ranchu and the Bubble Eye, may only survive for five years. Telescopes can survive for 12 to 14 years but, they may have eyesight and coordination issues. Fringetails and Fantails can survive in tanks for up to 12 years and ponds for up to 14 years.

Assuming the goldfish is healthy and well-cared for, its life expectancy can reach 15-20 years. There have also been reports of slim-bodied goldfish, lasting for up to 40 years in an outdoor pond, where a goldfish's native habitat is most nearly reproduced. Meanwhile, the average lifespan of a fancy goldfish is 7-12 years. That is because they are considered physically weaker than slim-bodied goldfish. In general, slim goldfish live longer than fancy goldfish.
