You may know a lot about Europe, although I’m sure there's a lot more to learn about this vast continent. Europe contains some pretty astounding facts, including some of the world's most visited countries, interesting history, great art, and towering natural achievements. So, let us explore what makes Europe a top tourist destination and how many countries in Europe?
About Europe
Europe is the world's second-smallest continent, resembling a big peninsula or a subcontinent. It is the westernmost part of the Eurasian landmass, occupying the whole Northern Hemisphere. Several bigger islands, such as Iceland and the British Isles, which include the United Kingdom and Ireland, are part of Europe. There are 50 countries that make up Europe. According to the traditional conception, Europe consists of 44 sovereign states or nations. The Faroe Islands are a self-governing territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Greenland, which is geographically part of North America, is also a self-governing Danish colony. Kosovo is a Balkan country with only partial recognition. A small portion of western Kazakhstan is also considered European territory.
Area
Europe is 20 percent larger than the contiguous United States, with a total size of 10.2 million km2 (3,938,000 sq mi). Without the United Kingdom, the European Union has a total area of nearly 4.23 million km2 (1.6 million sq mi).
Population
Europe has a population of 747 million people. With a population of 110 million people, the European section of Russia is the most populous country in Europe, followed by Germany with 83 million people and Metropolitan France with 67 million (in 2020).
Northern Europe encompasses the Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as the region of Europe to the north of Western Europe, the English Channel, and the Baltic Sea.
Western Europe is the western part of Europe, bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean, on the north by the English Channel and the North Sea, and on the south by the Alps.
Southern Europe, sometimes known as Mediterranean Europe, refers to the continent's southernmost region, which is mostly subtropical. The Mediterranean Sea forms the southern border of the region. In Southern Europe, there are 13 sovereign countries, seven of which are members of the European Union.
