If you are not a techy guy, you might not have a great understanding of the unit of digital information like bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, etc. In digital processing, information is shared and stored in binary bits, 0 and 1.

You can convert different information measuring units into one another using a simple mathematical formula. Thus, let's find out how many Megabytes are there in a kilobyte?

Megabytes in a kilobyte

Information units are always base2 multiples. Thus, if you look at the hierarchy, 1 byte has 23, that is 8 bits. Ideally, as the name suggests, I kilobyte should have 1000 bytes since kilo represents a thousand. But it's not entirely true.

Kilobyte:

A kilobyte has approximately a thousand bytes. More precisely, a kilobyte has 21 bytes, which is equivalent to 1024 bytes. Kilobyte was one of the most popular information storage units when computer technology was new and still expanding. But, with the increase of information, we are now more familiar with larger units like gigabytes (GBs).

Megabyte:

Next comes MB, abbreviated as megabytes. Similar to Kilobytes, 1 megabyte contains 210 kilobytes. That is, 1 megabyte is equal to 1024 kilobytes. Your MP3 audio file, PNG images, or even some video files have sizes in megabytes. Similarly, 1MB is equivalent to 220 bytes and 223 bits.
