Just 16 wooden rafts and four folding boats were continued board - enough to oblige 1,178 individuals - however only 33% of the boat's absolute limit.

The primary boat to arrive at the site of the sinking, the CS Mackay-Bennett, found such countless bodies that it immediately ran out of its treating supplies.

Altogether 333 bodies were recuperated, with most now covered at a graveyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
