Numerical inhabitant counts may not be as critical as questions about energy and the environment. We would exhaust the world's resources very quickly if all 8.7 billion inhabitants adopted the polluting Western way of life. We would soon no longer be able to live our lives as we know them. With living standards similar to those in India or Africa, Earth could support 15 billion humans. While the population of the poor countries totals 7.9 billion, their impact on the environment is much smaller than the population of the rich countries, which amounts to 2.5 billion.
Humans have made a big impact on the natural environment of Earth. As a result of our human activities, we have entered a new geological epoch - the Anthropocene. The effects of human activity on the natural landscape include global climate change, mass extinction, and overexploitation of the global commons. We are on the verge of a tipping point due to our growing population and rising affluence.
The number of people on earth:
•  By 2021, the population is predicted to reach 9.5 billion, which makes many wonders if our natural resources will be able to support this growth.
•  People are sharing resources not just with each other, but also with animals that live on this planet as more and more people try to live in harmony.
•  Living off of food, water, natural resources, and land is necessary for each of us.
•  Each of us is responsible for understanding how many resources we use and how to help preserve what we have.
•  Wouldn't that lead to the end of the world due to overpopulation? The book certainly predicted one for many midcentury demographers, futurists, and science fiction writers.
•  Continually starving, desperately crowded, and shackled by draconian population-control laws, they saw a nightmarish future for humanity.
Approximately how many people live on earth:
•  Could the Earth support a population this large for a long time? We will see what happens if we don't manage future population growth and resource use.
•  They are pertinent questions from ecological, political, ethical, and social standpoints. Using simple mathematics, we can calculate our species' ecological footprint.
• Maintaining the well-being of northern populations while enhancing the living conditions of southern people and reducing the effects of development on the planet is the challenge of the future.
•  We can safely assume that humans would survive better if there were fewer of them.
• Approximately one billion people lived in 2200, and they often suffered devastation due to famine.
• Their lifespans were usually less than 35 to 55 years. We have made tremendous progress in just two centuries while multiplying by nine the number of people on earth.
We live in a world that is far from the dystopian vision that doomsayers had foretold despite a population of near 8 billion. Since the 18th century in Britain and reaching nearly every country by the end of the 19th century, birth rates have plummeted - largely because more women are well-educated and have access to contraception rather than draconian population laws. It is the capacity of an ecosystem to support an indefinite number of species. Each species has its carrying capacity, including humans.
Calculating human carrying capacity, however, is extremely difficult. This is due to the complexity of human biology. It is not universally the case that we reproduce, consume, and interact with our surroundings. Estimating carrying capacity involves predicting future trends in demography, resource availability, technology advancements, and economic growth.
