The importance of water in the body cannot be undervalued. Water constitutes about sixty percent of the total body weight. Man can't exist without water, this emphasizes how important water is to human wellbeing. Drinking water regularly makes one feel better. The body uses water in all maintaining cells, organs, and tissues and in regulating the temperature of the body. Water should not be joked with.
Below are the significant functions of water in the human body;
Excretion:
• Water helps the body to remove wastes from the blood.
• Water excretes waste through urination and sweating.
Helps to break down food into absorbable nutrients
• The large and small intestine absorbs water after drinking.
• This aids in the breaking down of soluble fibres and other food materials into simplified nutrients.
Water restores the body natural hydration level
For a reason or the other, the human body loses fluid which must be constantly replaced as they are lost. So, it is very mandatory to ingest water sufficiently to restore the body's hydration level.
It aids the proper functioning of the brain
According to research, water makes up 75 percent of the human brain. Dehydration negatively alters the functioning of the brain.
Water enhances the proper functioning of the Cardiovascular System
Water constitutes a large percentage of the blood. The blood plasma, which is the liquid portion of the blood, contains 90% of water. Dehydration of the body automatically results in a high concentration of blood. This results in an imbalance in the mineral content of the blood.
Tissues and Joints protection
• Water keeps the body tissues moist.
• Water acts as a lubricant for the joints in the body.
The above has further established the significance of water in the body. Inadequate water intake leads to dehydration of the body which could further result in the malfunctioning of vital organs in the body.
Each passing day, we lose water in the body as a result of the body's metabolic activities, sweating, urine and other processes that take water off the body. These activities require a daily and adequate water supply to regulate the body system and make all the organs function properly. However, too much intake of water is unhealthy. So, cautiousness must be taken when drinking water. There are many recommendations on daily intake of water. However, the Intake of water should be based on one's diverse factors.
Different factors like;
● The weather condition: During cold, intake of water is minimal.
● State of health
● Exercise and strenuous activities: Activities that lead to loss of water from the body require one to refill the lost fluid from the body.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine of the United States proposed that an adequate daily intake of water is:
• About 3.7 litres (equivalent to 15 and a half cups) of water a day for men
• About 2.7 litres (equivalent to 11 and a half cups) of water a day for women.
• Health experts also suggest that eight cups of water should be taken daily.
