Trump is currently 75 years old. Donald John Trump was born in Queens, New York, on June 14, 1946. His father, Fred Trump, was a highly successful real estate developer. The elder Trump was of German heritage, and his wife, Mary McLeod, of Scottish background. Their son Donald was the second youngest of five children. He was educated at the New York Military Academy and the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania. Even before he graduated he was drawn to real estate and construction, and as a young man he took over his father’s firm, renaming it the Trump Organization.

Trump's Religious Beliefs

Trump was not a regular churchgoer before he was elected president. He attended Norman Vincent Peale’s church for a while and praises Peale’s book The Power of Positive Thinking. He has also attended Episcopal churches for several Christmas and Easter services. In 2016, he was described by one prominent evangelical supporter as a “baby Christian.” Since moving to the White House, however, he has visited many different churches, mostly evangelical and Pentecostal. He has met with numerous ministers, been prayed over, and sought the advice of spiritual counselors like White-Cain, a Florida televangelist often associated with the prosperity gospel,who took a position as the Trump administration’s faith outreach coordinator last year. City of Destiny, the church White-Cain founded in Florida, is nondenominational.

In 1977, Trump married Ivana Zelnickova, a Czech who became an American citizen, and they had three children: Donald Jr. (born 1977), Ivanka (1981), and Eric (1984). The couple divorced in 1990 after his affair with an aspiring actress, Marla Maples, which was avidly covered in New York’s tabloids. In 1993, Trump married Maples two months after their daughter Tiffany was born. He and Maples divorced in 1999; she raised Tiffany in California. By then Trump was in a relationship with Melania Knauss, a model from Slovenia. They married in Palm Beach on January 22, 2005, and son Barron was born in 2006. She became a citizen that year. When media outlets sought in 2016 to unseal records of Trump’s first divorce, Ivana Trump wrote, “Donald and I currently share a warm relationship, and our family should not be forced to relive this part of our past.” Marla Maples attended inaugural events.

Trump's Business and Career

Trump was a real-estate developer and businessman who owned, managed, or licensed his name to several hotels, casinos, golf courses, resorts, and residential properties in the New York City area and around the world. From the 1980s Trump also lent his name to scores of retail ventures including branded lines of clothing, cologne, food, and furniture and to Trump University, which offered seminars in real-estate education from 2005 to 2010. In the early 21st century his private conglomerate, the Trump Organization, comprised some 500 companies involved in a wide range of businesses, including hotels and resorts, residential properties, merchandise, and entertainment and television.

Mr. Trump expressed interest in running for president as early as 1987, and even entered the 2000 race as a Reform Party candidate. After 2008, he became one of the most outspoken members of the "birther" movement, which questioned whether Barack Obama had been born in the US. Trump became the presumptive Republican Party nominee for president after the Indiana primary. He is the first US president never to have held elected office or served in the military, meaning that he had already made history before he was sworn in as America's 45th president on 20 January 2017.
