Eiffel Tower was designed and constructed by Gustave Eiffel (an engineer) to be the focal point and entrance arch to the World's Fair rejoicing the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, and since then it has become an iconic symbol of France and Paris, and also one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.
