How to clean a belly button

Most of the time we forget about our belly buttons when taking care of our hygiene. Belly buttons need to be cleaned and taken care of just like the rest of our bodies. Studies show that different types of bacteria are found in the belly button. Most belly buttons have crevices that collect dirt and breed bacteria. How you clean your belly button depends on what type you have. Washing prevents the buildup of dead skin, sweat oils that the body produces naturally. Regular washing of your belly button also prevents germs from accumulating in the area. These are some tips on how to clean your belly button according to your type

Cleaning an innie button
1.    Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and rub gently the surface inside your belly button. Throw away the swab then take a new one and continue cleaning
2.    Once the cotton swab comes out clean, take another one dip it in water then rinse the alcohol out of your belly button to avoid it drying your skin
3.    When you shower, dry the inside of your belly button gently using another clean dry swab or you can use the corner of your towel or a cloth.
4.    When using body lotion do not apply it to your innie belly button. this is because the moisture from the lotion could promote bacteria growth and make your belly button dirty again

Cleaning an outie belly button
An outie belly button is more accessible than an inner thus the cleaning process is very simple and easy
1.    When cleaning leather up a washcloth then gently rub your belly button
2.    Rinse off the soap
3.    After showering dry your belly button thoroughly
4.    Massage some lotion into your belly button.

How to clean a pierced belly button
If you recently pierced your belly button follow the instructions given to you by your piecer for the proper cleaning regime to avoid infections. Follow the following instructions if your piercing is fully healed
1.    Ensure you follow the instructions for the type of belly button you got, an innie or outer
2.    Soak a cotton ball in a solution of ¼ teaspoon of sea salt in 8 ounces of boiled water that is cooled
3.    Use the cotton ball to gently wash the pierced area.
If you cannot make the solution yourself, buy an isotonic saline solution at a drug store or online.

Cleaning a smelly belly button
If the smelly is due to dirt or greasy cleaning it carefully with water and soap helps get rid of the bad odor. If the smell, is due to an infection, you will need to make an appointment with your doctor for a proper check-up and prescribe treatment if need be.
If your belly button is out of control in such that you cannot get rid of the smell and the infection by cleaning it by yourself, the right solution is to visit your primary care doc or dermatologist for proper cleaning.
