How To Delete a Google Account

Maybe your Google account has been hacked or you've just made up your mind to get rid of it. That's not a big deal though. You can delete your Google Account at any time but If you change your mind, you might not be able to recover it.

Before deleting your google account, you should first know the implication of it, know the harm it might cause you, and consider your options. Let us look at some of the harm it may cause.

• All the data and content in that account, like emails, files, calendars, and photos will be lost
• You won't have access to Google services where you sign in with that account, like Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or Play.
• All access to subscriptions and content you bought with that account on YouTube or Google Play, like apps, movies, games, music, and TV shows will be lost

Few things to know if your account has been hacked

Just Before you delete a hacked or compromised account, why not use a Security Checkup to learn more about what parts of your account were accessed without your permission. That way, you can take steps to reduce further harm caused by the hacker:

• Save passwords in your Google Account, you can find out if they were accessed so you know if they need to be changed.
• Save contacts in your Google Account, you can find out if they were downloaded so you can let contacts know if they should watch out for suspicious messages.
• Use Google Pay for transactions, you can check if there are any unauthorized payments so that you can dispute them.
• Don't forget that, once your account is deleted, you can no longer use Security Checkup to review activity in that account.

How to delete Google Account

• Sign into your Gmail account on Google.com
• Click the grid icon in the upper right-hand corner and select "Account."
• Under the "Account preferences" section click "Delete your account or services."
• Click "Delete Google Account and data."
• Enter your password.
• Click "download your data" to save any important information from being permanently erased.
• Check both boxes and click "Delete Account."

How to Delete your Google Gmail Account

Note: If you have more than one Google Account, deleting one won’t delete the others:

• Follow step 1 to 3 above.
• Select "Delete products."
• Enter your password
• Click "Download Data" to save any important information from being permanently erased.
• Click the trash can icon next to "Gmail."
• Enter an alternate email address (cannot be another Gmail address).
• Click "Send Verification Email."
• Open the email from Google you should have received with your alternate email.
• Follow the deletion link in the message.
• If prompted, log into the Gmail account you want to delete.
• Select "Yes, I want to delete (example)@gmail.com."
• Click "Delete Gmail." Then, click "Done."
