For video material, YouTube is by far the most popular place on the internet. However, YouTube isn't the only source of high-quality video. Filmmakers and other creative types go to Vimeo as an alternative.

Step 1:
Click the download button located underneath the video player.

Step 2:
When prompted with a menu of downloading options, choose the version of the video that you want to download. The options, depending on what the video creator has allowed, are SD 240p, SD 360p, SD 540p, HD 720p, HD 1080, and the original video.

Step 3:
Once you’ve selected the format you want to download the video in, the video file will download to your computer where you can open it directly.

Occasionally, depending on the browser you are operating on, the video may open in a new tab and start playing (rather than downloading). If this happens and you are on a Mac computer, simply hold down the control key and select the link, then choose “save link as” or “download linked file.” If you are on a Windows computer, right-click on the link and select “Save as” or “Save target as.”

Note: A video creator with a paid Vimeo subscription can choose to turn the downloading options off on their video content.

Sometimes you'll need to go the "unauthorized" route to save your favorite Vimeo videos on your computer for offline viewing.

Just search "download Vimeo" on Google and you'll be presented with a few options. The most popular are SaveTheVideo and Vimeo Downloader.

There is a similarity between all of these websites: Copy the Vimeo video's URL and paste it into your browser to download it. Input the URL into the downloader's website, then press Submit. There is a variety of video quality and resolution options for the user to choose from. Right-click on the version you wish to save and select "Save link as."
