Decoding of the human genome.

This topic brings to remember the doctorate of my cousin who is a doctor, I help her to elaborate, her project, study the subject a little while transcribed and elaborated conceptual maps of the subject, was delighted with medicine, by the way I learned many things from them, and I would like to study another university career and I would like it to be medicine.

According to studies there are two teams of scientists who have been working to decode the human genome have substantially finished the sequence and presented their findings an event perhaps comparable to Mendel's discovery of the law of genetics, or Darwin's work on evolution.

Achievement marks the beginning of a new era in medicine, teams say, laying the foundation for new discoveries about diseases and for new treatments. There are, however, still some gaps in the genome sequence.

The results have offered a number of surprises. One is that there are only about 30,000 genes in the human genome, not 100,000 as believed. In comparison, the fruit fly has 13,601 genes and the worm 19.098.

On the other hand, there are only 300 human genes that have no correspondence in the mouse genome. Another surprise was that more than 100 human genes come from bacteria. 40% of genes do not currently have known functions.

The sequence also revealed that genetically humans are 99.9% identical.
