Overview
Although apparently his destiny was to stay abroad and his talent was despised in his homeland, this renowned Venezuelan was a visionary optimist of scientific evolution in his country. Proof of this, was the foundation of the Venezuelan Institute of Neurology and Brain Research, transformed into the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC). In addition, contributions such as the creation of the diamond knife and the Electron Microscopy Laboratories of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Fermi Institute at the University of Chicago (USA), led him to be among great figures of international stature and deserving of important awards, among which the John Scott Award, award that had only been awarded before Thomas Alva Edison, Maria Curie, Edward Salk, Thomas Fleming and John Gibbon.
