Hungry?

Last week worked with slate engraving.
For the laser cutter, this is an easy task with medium speed and low power, you get a nice light grey engraving.
What does require attention is the purpose of your object. With coasters and serving plates, you need to take moisture and fat into account.
Earlier test had shown that the engraved image stains as it gets wet.
Finishing with lacquer turned out to be a good solution.
For the serving dish, after engraving, it is processed with linseed oil so that it can still be used for food.
Below photos of an earlier project showing the water spots (horse)
Then a picture of water on the coaster and finally when it has dried off again.
