I have to go to the shelter because I don't look good in selfies

I wrote this poem after reading media headlines several years ago that black cats are being dumped en masse in shelters because they would not look good in selfies, that they are too dark. This made me very angry and sad. With this poem, I hope that people will think, even if it's just one person who gets me thinking, because black cats also look great in selfies. In addition, animals are not accessories that you can just exchange for another one that suits you better. They are sentient living beings that can be traumatized by such people.



I'm in the shelter.
Not because I was naughty.
Not because I would bring bad luck.
Not because my owner died.
Not because my owner is allergic to me.
I'm in the shelter because I don't look good in selfies.
I don't stand out in my owner's selfies.
I'm falling into the background of the selfies.
Too bad my owner didn't think of that before.
I've had a beautiful black coat since I was born.
My owner knew that too and he was proud of it.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case now.
He wants a different color, like.
They look great on selfies.
Don't fall into the background of the selfies.
Actually, it's pretty sad that the owner thinks that way.
It says more about him than me.
Hopefully my next owner doesn't think that way.
Does he see that I can also look funny in selfies.
Should he laugh at my bright eyes,
To make it look like I'm an alien cat.
