#BOERDERIJRUINERWOLD 😍 Where do you see “houses” standing on the chimney...
that you can admire in the photo

Ruinerwold is a peat mining northeast of Meppel, which originated in the Middle Ages after the extraction of the swampy area on site by the monks of the monastery of Ruinen. In the middle of the twelfth century this area was donated to the monastery by the bishop of Utrecht. Ruinerwold originated from Buddingewold and Haakswold. Both belonged to the glory of Ruinen as independent march offices. They fell under Blijdenstein.
It was only in the 18th century that the village was named #Ruinerwold to wear it. Originally, it is a typical regional village, but after the Second World War a real village centre developed by new neighbourhoods.
Ruinerwold was the first municipality in Drenthe to have a town hall. This building was put into operation in 1849.

From 1870 until 1933 Ruinerwold also had a railway station.

Ruinerwold was the capital of the municipality of Oosteinde, Berghuizen, Weerwille, Haakswold, Kraloo, Blijdenstein Broekhuizen and Buitenhuizen until the municipal reclassification on 1 January 1998. The hamlet of Tweeloo was already joined by the municipality of Meppel in 1942. Broekhuizen joined Meppel in the municipal reorganization of 1 January 1998.

Residents of Ruinerwold are also called 'Spekbraanders'. This is because of the many pig farms and piglet farms that used to be present in Ruinerwold.

I've never seen this anywhere else!
