Importance of lichens

#lichen Lichens are important from the ecological point of view as soil builders and indicators of pollution, as they absorb water and any other substance susceptible to toxic components; also as feed for animals and in the production of bread and salads; in industry as dyes for perfumes and fabrics. In traditional medicine they are used for their antibiotic properties, to make ointments, ointments and vitamin C. Fungi capable of associating with algae to form lichen are mainly of the ascomycetes group, while algae can be green algae (chlorophytes) or cyanobacteria (formerly called blue-green algae).
