In Many Countries, Children Are Becoming Overweight And Unhealthy. Some People Think That The Government Has The Responsibility To Solve This Problem. To What Extent Do You Agree Or Disagree?
Obesity is undoubtedly the major cause of many diseases in your body. A certain section of society believes it is the state's responsibility to find a solution to unhealthy eating habits amongst youngsters. In my opinion, I partially agree with it, and in my essay, I am going to support my opinion before giving a reasoned conclusion.
On the one hand, young kids are in tender age, and their parents entirely decide their eating habits rather than the state. This means that no matter what rules are laid down by the government to control obesity, they will be accustomed to the lifestyle in their house. Surely if parents are fond of unhealthy junk food every other day, kids will automatically be inclined toward it. For instance, if a family practices healthy eating habits, the kids will innately follow it no matter how cheap the junk food is. Therefore, parents' primary responsibility is to keep their kids healthy and fit rather than the state.

On the other hand, the government can control obesity in young kids by imposing higher taxes on junk food. This is because an increase in taxes on junk food will force families to go for cheaper and healthier options. Thus, it will ensure that the kids who eat unhealthy food every other day will get it twice or thrice a month. And having a clean diet will make kids more active and healthy. For instance, the best deals at the supermarkets on fruits and vegetables rather than chips and chocolates will force parents to buy fruits for their kids rather than expensive chocolates. Hence the government can play a major role in implementing such rules.
In conclusion, to solve the problem of obesity, the state can play a role by increasing the taxes on junk food. However, it would not be as effective because people who can afford it will still prefer it. So it is more likely the responsibility of the parents to ensure their kids have healthy eating habits.
