It is common to see in the gardens of the humble areas of our city the crops of plants that provide great beauty but that in turn provide some other benefit other than ornamental, we appreciate how plants that provide a pleasant view alternate, with others that become allies to treat various ailments or to support us with a touch of flavor and color when performing our culinary practices.

On a visit to my sister's house, I saw in her garden a plant that was common in the past to find in the courtyards, nowadays it is difficult to come across these, I mean Achiote or Onoto,

The well-known Achiote

This tropical climate plant has several names: colorau, urucum in Brazil, achuete in the Philippines, urucú in Paraguay and Bolivia, among others given in the region.

This plant provides in its seeds a dye frequently used to give spice and color to a typical Venezuelan dish during the holiday season, our rich hallaca!, is also involved in the preparation of an endless number of industrial products found on the market, such as cheeses, dairy products, cosmetics, among others.

Its natural charm

Despite knowing the plant, I had never noticed its beautiful flowers, full of pistils and a pale violet color, I was able to take some shots even though they were not in their best condition, but despite that they are beautiful!
