In the Netherlands, there is a housing shortage among insects.
Pollinating insects in the Netherlands are doing dramatically badly. If we do nothing, the pollination of many plants is also at risk. This has disastrous consequences for biodiversity and our food. We can still turn the tide. Help out! Make your garden or balcony a home for insects.
Outside the nature reserves, there is hardly any space to live. The landscape in the Netherlands appears green, but has dried up, soured and tightened. The messy corners and frayed edges, hedges, ditches and rows of trees - where insects live - have largely disappeared.
76% of all insects have now disappeared. In less than 30 years! And recent research shows that the number of species is also declining, even rare insects are disappearing.
The consequences are disastrous. For example, the remains of flowers and plants are no longer broken down, so that no more nutrients enter the soil for plants, for example. It also has major consequences for insectivores, such as birds and small mammals. But that's not all. Without insects, flowers, crops and trees are no longer pollinated.
