Is the government allowed to privatise services of general interest?
A year or so ago Peter van Hoesel wrote a blog about privatization of various public enterprises in the last few years. His thesis is that a new legal form can be seen: the public cooperative.
Below I describe — inspired by his story — my personal vision on this subject, the privatization of public services. Given the other angle of view, it is certainly worth reading the article by Peter van Hoesel.
Formerly matters of general interest regulated by government
It has been many years since now. The government made sure that our society turned. Politics The Hague took responsibility on issues that were important to a (very) large majority of the population. I am thinking of the utilities at the time. For things such as public transport, energy, care, living and communication, “utilities” were created. Both financially and policy-wise, several ministers were the final leaders in these areas.
