We are very concerned about the long-term care now that the second corona wave emerges. And not just us. Together with some fifty caregivers, we sound the alarm bell. A five-point plan should ensure the quality of life in care. You too can sign the manifesto.

In the first phase of covid-19, a lockdown was applied for long-term care. For three months, residents lived isolated from their loved ones and the outside world. Everything was focused on safety. Their quality of life, as well as that of their loved ones, was severely damaged. These months had a major impact on everyone involved.

The probability of recurrence of a nationwide lockdown is small. Yet there is cause for concern. The increasing infections and the lack of care personnel (due to illness or quarantine) can again lead to top down safety policies and local lockdowns. There are already some health care facilities closed. The quality of life must not be harmed again.

The manifesto has been drafted and signed by Anne-Mei The, professor of long-term care and dementia at the University of Amsterdam; Gijsbert van Herk, chairman of the Board of Directors Humanitas Rotterdam and Rijnmond; Adelheid Roosen, theatre maker, Thuis op Zuid; Hugo Borst, writer, Thuis op Zuid and initiator 'Sharp op elderenzorg'; Carin Gaemers, historian and initiator 'Sharp op ouderenzorg'

The manifesto, addressed to Minister Hugo de Jonge, supports all people who have to make courageous choices for quality of life. Read the full five-point manifesto on our website. #zorgmanisfest
