It has to be! Before the first Dutch lesson

“Mom, I need to read a book.”
“Yes, and, what does that have to do with me?”
“Will you bring me one from the library?”
“The library is not open yet.”
“But you have the key, right?”
“Yes, from the old Crimean Library, but there are no more books there.”
'I don't need more books either, just need one.”
“Sorry darling, it's not there either.”
“Yes, but I need a book anyway. For my first Dutch lesson this year. I can't help it either, it has to! I'm in danger of going all the way down.”
It does take serious forms when my daughter uses such dramatic words and starts to speak a bit of old-fashioned language.
Then just an emergency solution. I let my eyes go over my own collection and, in good luck, take one away.
