Today is my twenty-second birthday and I should be blasting out loud Taylor Swift's "22" from her "Red" album, but instead, I wrote a poem.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY - a poem
Birthdays -
the most wonderful time of the year,
when you're young.
Bliss,
games,
presents,
cake.
You're made to feel special!
But the years go by.
And your birthday slowly turns into another grey day,
nothing to look forward to.
You only turn a year older.
What's so special?
It's not like you'll be young again.
Besides,
a birthday is so easy to forget,
especially if you have no friends
or family for that matter.
Or worse -
if people remember your birthday,
your so-called "special day"
only because Big Tech reminded them of it.
And so begin the greetings
on the Internet.
No one really calls you on the phone anymore.
No one sends you a handmade card
or a letter.
Instead, they tag you in old photos you would
like to erase from the planet Earth,
or send a bland message without any real emotion,
as if emojis can replace it.

I think about it the same way with me. If they forget mine “ahja, I forget others sometimes too”. If you start looking at a birthday as just a day where you can celebrate yourself*, and then invite others yourself. You'll really enjoy it,!
