Kendrick Lamar explains why white people should not use the N word.
Kendrick Lamar was performing at the Hangout Festival, when a female white woman called the N word. The music stopped after the fan used the word 3x. Lamar asked her to sing the song on stage, but with a small addition: she had to call the word.
Kendrick Lamar:
“I will explain it to you in its simplest form. I've been on this earth for 30 years and there have been so many things a white guy said I couldn't do. Get a good credit. Buy a home in an urban city. So many things 'you can't do', whether it's from afar or close. So when I say this is my word. please let me have that word. It was one of those things I heard at school, but I never thought I would be a part of it. When I heard I was getting it, I thought to be recognized in an academic world. whoa, this thing can really transcend me. It's one of those things that should have happened to hip-hop a long time ago. It took a long time for people to hug us, people outside our community, our culture, not only to see this as vocal lyrics, but to see that this is really hurt, this is really hurt, these are really true stories about our lives. And now, to get the recognition it deserves as a true art form, that's not only great for myself, but it also makes me feel good about hip-hop in general.”
