'Kintsugi' is an age-old Japanese technique to repair broken pottery.

By using gold glue to stick shards back together, the break lines are accentuated. This gives the pottery an artistic added value. Japanese have an expression that describe the beauty of old age and imperfection: “Wabi Sabi”.

Because bonsai jars often tend to blow off the schab,this technique is widely used to restore the expensive bosai shells.

On the right, you can see my first overbold attempt to restore a jar that had fallen into nine shards. For each fracture line, press the shards firmly together for at least 5 minutes, after which the prepared adhesive will harden before the next break age and thus become unusable.

Of course, it will be much better if you only have to stick two fault lines.
