Labeling a neuron: Discover how neurons are labeled
Labeling a neuron, what are neurons? three main parts of neurons, Importance of neurons in life
Neurons are nerve cells, the basic building blocks of the nervous system. Neurons are similar in many ways to other cells in the human body, but there is one key difference between neurons and other cells. Neurons are specialized to transmit information throughout the body.
Neurons do not have direct physical contact with each other. But rather are very close together in a structure called a synapse. A neuron that sends a signal to the next is called a presynaptic neuron, and a neuron that receives a signal is called a postsynaptic neuron.
All neurons are electrically excited. The electrical impulse usually reaches dendrites, and get processed in the cell body. It then propagates along the axon. The axon acts only as a cable throughout its length, carrying only the signal.
