“The exploitation of salt in Las Cumaraguas began in the mid-forties. We worked on balls and without water. We loaded the sacks on the back. If you filled a hundred sacks, you were paid 1250 bolivars, when the bolivar and the realito were known. A kilo of corn was worth four cents. Those who work salt are now blissful.
