Su novia, Jodi Arias, le tomó la foto en la regadera y luego lo apuñaló casi 30 veces. Segundos después de que esta foto fuera capturada, Arias tomó una escopeta y le disparó en la cabeza.
Un médico forense confirmó que Alexander probablemente ya estaba muerto antes de la herida de bala, ya que ella le había cortado la vena yugular.
Algunas teorías en línea creen que si se magnifica el ojo de Alexander, se puede ver la silueta de Arias en el reflejo de su pupila.
