Le Jardin Secret... An inventive gem...
The origins of Le Jardin Secret date back to the sixteenth century, but like many other important buildings, it was destroyed in the seventeenth century. It wasn't until the nineteenth century that the land came into the hands of Abd-Allah U-Bihi, who had the palace and gardens rebuilt to their original design. However, U-Bihi was killed with poisoned tea and the estate then had several owners. When Muhammad Loukrissi died in 1934, the building fell into disrepair. It was not until 2008 that the initiative was taken to restore the building and in 2016, Le Jardin Secret opened its doors to the public.
Through the first building, you enter the botanical garden with plants from all over the world.
The irrigation of these gardens is done by an ingenious system from the eleventh century.
The khettara is a type of underground drainage gallery through which the water is directed to the city's mosques, hammams and fountains. So all this water comes from a source in the Atlas Mountains.
A small pavilion leads to the second garden with a building at the back.
