#leijpark013 Right now we see a lot of bumblebees flying.. That started early in spring.. Because of their hair, bumblebees can fly much earlier than bees, their hair keeps them warm.. Unlike bees, they do much better in colder climates.. The hairs have another point.. When bumblebees pollinate flowers, they shake their flying muscles up and down violently to loosen the pollen from the flowers.. Through this shaking, they produce a lot of heat that they hold in their hair.. Once back in the nest, they use this heat to warm up the nest.. The field bumblebee in the photo can form nests with about two hundred workers (females). Together they release enough heat in this way, keeping the larvae warm.. An effective way to give their offspring a good start to life..
