Do you know? People who do hard? Zoo exhausting. Insects can also have some of them. So far it's been easy: we knew bumblebees, bees and flies. But of course there's always a charlatan in between who wants everything. We gave him his way and he's now called Bumblebee Fly.
In fact, it's a kind of glider that pretends to be a bumble bee. The difference is pretty easy to see, but you have to hang your nose above it: the Bumblebee fly has two wings, where the bumblebee has four. In addition, the antennas of this cheater are much smaller than those of the bumblebee, but that difference is hard to tell if there is not a real bumblebee next to it.
The Bumblebee Bee Fly likes to put its eggs in the water, but clear water does not have any use to the animal. Preferably there is a lot of rotting plant material in the water and there is one material that fits this description perfectly: liquid manure. Liquid manure is removed on time on most farms, but this usually does not apply to the millet. In this, many Bumblebee bee flies can spend their stage as a larva. They look a bit like fly larvae (maggots) but as an extra they have a long tube that makes them breathe. The tube reaches to the surface of the water while they eat under water on everything that is plantand rotting. Due to the presence of this tube that looks like a tail, the larvae of the Bumbee near fly (and other gliders) have been named “rat tail”. You can also find rat tails in ponds, rain barrels, and even in the cistern of toilets that are not often used. That's why it is advisable to flush a toilet twice a week.
In Leijpark there is plenty of stagnant water with considerable amounts of plant material; the ideal breeding pond for Bumblebee Bee flies.
The Bumblebee Bee Fly Benefits by Resembling a Bumblebee. Bumblebees can stitch and not, like bees once, but several times in a row. The Bumblebee Bee Fly pretends to be very dangerous with its appearance, which, of course, is not the case. Anyway, if the frightening effect works, it's good, isn't it?
In the Leijpark, the Bumblebee Bee Fly is another example of the motto: “Nothing is what it seems.”
Despite this, the clown is welcome; quiet corners of water await wriggling rat tails in the ponds: it's dinner time!
