The gull has a chocolate brown head in the summer, but in winter that color disappears and the bird only has some faint stains, as if it had headphones on. That winter rug is actually his normal plumage. The feathers of summer are the so-called splendor, intended to woo females and intimidate other males. With that striking head, it is not only more visible to females, but also to predators. It is therefore that the gull changes color outside the breeding season. The almost white-gray plumage of the gull, which is usually located above or on the water, is much less noticeable and especially when the seagulls move in groups. A hunter like the peregrine falcon, nesting on the Westpoint, likes a gull. So, in winter, they are a lot harder to catch than in summer. In that last season, the proverb goes on: “Those who want to be beautiful must suffer (occasionally) pain”.
