Leijpark 013

What is a better picture of the leap to adulthood than a seed hanging from a fluff umbrella driven by the wind? We see this image when we blow the fluff bulb of a dandelion and make a wish or try to see the remaining fluff how many children we are going to have. An innocent children's game we've all played at times. What we didn't know back then was the fact that not every 'dandelion' we used to play this game was actually a dandelion. There are more yellow flowers that later form fluff bulbs. One of them is in large numbers in the Leijpark. Her name: Small stripe seed.
The name Small stripe seed is confusing. When the flower has blossomed, it forms fruits, within which the seeds develop. It is not the seeds that are striped, but the fruits, which look like small elongated beans. The seeds show ridges and with a little imagination you might see stripes in them, but the name remains controversial.
Small stripe seed has no use in some craft, but is very important for the Leijpark, because a large number of bees depend on her. Now Klein stripe seed (and with it all these bees) is lucky that she is very stubborn. It grows in the meadows of the park, as well as half on the trails, between pavement tiles, in vacant terrain and against fences. It is currently being built near the Leijpark, but all this does not stop the Klein stripe seed, on the contrary: she loves it and finds new grounds for sprouting.
The survival of the Small stripe seed in the Leijpark stands or falls with the mode of mowing. When mowing in stages, there is always enough space for Small stripe seed to root. The flowers bloom between June and November, so you'd say there's plenty of time to mow a few times in different places and not cut everything suddenly short. In practice, we do not see the Small stripe seed diminish and bees, as we have seen before, like the poultry bee, do sail in it.
Compared to the dandelion, the leaves of Small stripe seed are much narrower and the flowers are also smaller. There is even an intermediate shape that goes by the name of dandelion stripe seed and as soon as we encounter it in the Leijpark, we get her in front of the lens.
Until then, we're doing it with this nectar bomb, which is so important for every winged insect that has to raise young people in the Leijpark and beyond. A lovely priceless flower: Small stripe seed.
