prejudging. A persistently uneradicable evil that has caused untold suffering for centuries. Especially minority groups, about which not much is known, must compete against all kinds of assumptions that are sometimes even downright malicious. For example, there is a persistent myth that gypsies (an obsolete word for certain wandering nations) robbed children. Gypsies were often dark-skinned and the children they stole from richer people were often much paler. They found something for this: They tanned the skin of living treasures they had stolen with a dark dye. This dye was extracted from a plant that we see in the Leijpark: Wolfspoot.
Wolfspoot is called that because the leaf is reminiscent of the print of a wolf's leg. There is indeed a black dye from Wolfspoot and it was almost certainly used by gypsies, but not to color baby skin. It was a means of coloring their textiles. So very innocent and very cheap and inventive, as Wolfspoot is often found in nature. In France, Wolfspoot was used for years to make linen and wool brown. It was believed that the dye was so strong that once tanned, a cloth would never turn pale again.
The groups of wandering nations ran and run into misunderstanding and often ignorance on the part of the bourgeoisie, who finds such an uncertain existence strange and then malice occurs, unfortunately. Moreover, these people were literally denounced by the Church because they believe in the supernatural, and that, of course, was against the sore papal bone. Once you have received an outcast status, you can hardly get rid of it. Hopefully, new times will bring new insights.
Before there were hospitals and people still had a lot to rely on the herbalist from their own village or neighboring village, Wolfspoot was often used to combat heart palpitations. It was also an antipyretic medicine and was used to make cough medicine. In our modern times, Wolfspoot is used in medicines for Graves disease, a condition where the thyroid works far too fast. Getting started with Wolfspoot yourself is definitely not recommended, as the plant is toxic if you are going to see it as a food plant.
In June, Wolfspoot gets small white flower wreaths that the slobkous bee (shown by us earlier) flies on. Moths and bumblebees also know how to find the plant. In fact, it is a useful plant that is linked, against will and thanks, to a piece of dark history created by fearful yet powerful people. Our history is full of the faint hearted who denounced everything around them only to get better for themselves. The opposite of the Leijpark. It continues to flourish and grow, and although a lot is being surrendered, the Leijpark seems to be focused on making us happy. I don't know what you think about it, but when I speak for myself, she succeeds with gusto. It is hoped that people will also be so generous, but I have a hard time, because, as the saying goes: “a wolf smells bearded but not naturally”. That said: Hope brings life.
