Some people have the idea that when we build, we're pushing nature. And partly that's true. Where first was green, we built houses, factories, roads and cultural landscapes. Sometimes, if we neglect what we built, then nature takes over again. For some crops, however, the intervention of man as a builder is a blessing. What we do with all our building, hooded and digging is grounding. Soil can be hard and hard to open for small seeds. Sand, loam and clay are crushed and then get a germ foot in the earth. Fortunately, there is the people who want to build a city, build a cart track or a train journey. Or: a park. There the ground is being opened and this is a blessing for Soft Dravik. In almost all places where human action has worked the soil in one way or another, this grass species occurs.
A place of choice for soil work is the farmer's pasture, where the cattle must graze on. Here is ploughed, harvested, sown and mown. Soft dravik likes to root in freshly open cut pasture. The farmers don't see this at all, of course; the farmer would like to see one variety of grass, full of protein for future cow's milk. What farmers have to do is keep mowing until the Soft Dravik disappears again. The plant disappears quickly and disappeared again when mowing repeated.
Other places where she likes to grow, we find where seldom is mowed, but the soil is processed: the roadside, under the barbed wire and in parks. In the construction of the Leijpark, for example, an untold amount of soil has shifted and an enormous tree stock planted. There is mowing, but not as much as in the pastures.
Now Soft Dravik also has the unoblibility to grow between the oats (dravik is derived from an old name for wild oats) and the farmers are not happy with that. A farmer can't cut an oat field, of course, to get rid of the Soft Dravik. Soft dravik is also impossible to grow, so the plant is too fast. Farmers still use a lot of herbicides (chemical weed killer) that help all sorts of herbs between production crops to another world, including Soft Dravik. A pity and bad thing, but the only alternative farmers have is hand weeding or howling. This is infeasable in large-scale farming. All the more reason to move to farmers in the small; so many herbs are saved from ruin. The Soft Dravik will find its spot. Even where cow urine has scorched the grass in the meadows, even there Soft dravik gets foot to the ground. At the Leijpark we enjoy her soft plumes after a healthy bowl of oatmeal porridge.
