Today in the Leijpark: the galls of the beech-gall mosquito become visible and slowly discolour. These bulges on beech leaf are caused by the larvae of this mosquito, which drink plant juice, causing proliferation (growth) on the leaf. In it, the larvae crawl and they are protected. They feed on the inside of the galls. at some point, in autumn when the leaf discoloured, the galls of the leaf fall off. The mosquito larvae hibernate in the galls on the ground and emerge as adult mosquitoes in spring. Then the whole circle starts again.
