Leonie and Mandy have a special evening
#Leonie is a woman in her 40s, she could be your neighbor. After her divorce, she builds her new life. With neighbor Mandy she has dinner appointments of the good kind: Mandy cooks! Love also comes around the corner, with all the consequences that entails.
I'm sure she had decided not to let Mandy know. She would just be neutral. That wouldn't have taken long. Mandy had opened the door and seen with one glance what was going on. She didn't tell Leonie that directly, but she had told Leonie that in the course of the evening. Mandy had put her at ease, like she always did. She had surrounded Leonie with cordiality and love. They had eaten together and talked about Julia, about the weather, about all kinds of safe topics. And in the meantime they had eaten, garter with chicken and silvery rice, really delicious! Slowly, Leonie relaxed. She thought she had it done, that Mandy didn't notice anything, and they could have a “normal” evening.
When they sat on the couch with coffee after dessert, Mandy had confronted Leonie. “You're confused, aren't you? I can see it in you. It doesn't matter.” Leonie opened her mouth to say something, to say nothing was wrong, but no words came out of her mouth. “Shut up, you don't have to say anything”, Mandy had spoken to her calmly. She had put her hand on Leonie's knee and that knee seemed to be on fire, and the heat spread throughout her body. Leonie stopped hearing what Mandy said, all her attention went to that hand. Mandy saw it. “I shouldn't do that,” she said pulling her hand back to her. “I touch people easily, but it confuses you even more now. I will try to restrain myself”. She smiled. Leonie protested. “That is not necessary,” she could just get out.
She told Mandy about her butterflies, about the feelings she had for weeks. “Honey, the day I saw you out here at the gallery, I already knew I would fall for you,” Mandy said, “I only knew right away that would not be easy, because you... you have a completely different background and I can never force or persuade you. You need to stay with yourself. You can't regret anything. I would never forgive myself if I hurt you.” Leonie shook her head. Mandy wouldn't hurt her, she knew that for sure. And now that Mandy had said this... Leonie had felt it, too, the magnetic attraction from the moment she first met Mandy. She just didn't recognize it because she didn't like women. Or because she didn't like women. And now everything was different.
By half past twelve, Leonie went home. She got up and walked down the hall. Mandy was chasing her. At the door, Leonie turned around to say hi to Mandy. She doubted. What to do now? Mandy doubted for a moment. For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The walls disappeared, all that was left were Mandy and Leonie. Leonie and Mandy. The moment lasted a second, or ten years. A new universe seemed to emerge as they looked each other in the eyes. Mandy put an arm around Leonie. Their heads came closer and closer to each other until their lips found each other.
