Leonie's children are not themselves
#Leonie is a woman in her 40s, she could be your neighbor. After her divorce, she builds a new life with her three children. Her parents live nearby and her sister is expecting her second child. Her friend Ilse has relationship problems and her neighbor Mandy has dinner appointments of the good kind: Mandy cooks!
When the children came back from Erik, Leonie noticed something about them. Even Ismay behaved differently than usual, as if they were all upset. Like there had been a fight. “What the hell is going on? Did you guys fight with Daddy or something? Did I do something wrong?” Julia just looked at her and went to her room. “I have to do homework,” she said and disappeared into the back part of the room she shared with Ismay. Martijn shrugged and said, “No, nothing wrong” and dived in front of the television. Ismay looked at her questioning. Leonie shrugged her shoulders. Then she must be wrong. She went to the kitchen to make coffee for herself. When she was standing there, she immediately took a cloth over the counter. Suddenly, Julia was behind her. “Will you make me tea?” she asked. Leonie almost had the words in her mouth to tell her daughter that she knew for sure she could do that fine herself, but there was something in Julia's voice that alerted her. “What is it, darling? Don't you feel good?” she asked while she turned on the kettle. Julia shrugged her shoulders.
“You know Mom”, Julia started. She looked at Leonie briefly, but then immediately looked back down. “It was so crazy, Dad had a visit this afternoon. It was a woman. And I don't know, but I don't think she was just visiting.” Julia looked at her mother questioning. “What do you mean not just visiting, honey?” asked Leonie. She suddenly thought about what Martijn said about Erik sitting on his phone and not letting Martijn watch. “Did you know that woman?” asked Leonie. Julia shook her head. “No, never seen, not even before, but Papa knew her well. And she did so made interested, she asked me all sorts of things”. “Hmmm... “said Leonie. “What do you think?” she asked her daughter. She didn't want to mention the V-word herself, she could of course be very wrong. “Maybe it's Daddy's new girlfriend or something,” Julia said and again she looked at her feet, as if she was afraid of Leonie's reaction.
