Light night clouds - photography tips

Around the period of the shortest night, midsummer (see blog below), light night clouds appear in the sky!
1 to 1 1/2 hour after sunset, the light clouds can be seen, or from 1 1/2 hour before sunrise. If you look north, you can see them emerging from west to east. They arise at about 80 kilometers altitude in the air. This is much higher than the “normal clouds” that arise up to 20 kilometers in the sky.
The high clouds often consist of ice crystals that have bound themselves to small particles of dust. When the sun disappears below the horizon, the rays coming along the horizon shine at the bottom of the high clouds, causing them to light up in the dark. It often blows hard at high altitudes, and that wind can be very irregular. This gives you the wavy movement that is so cool to see!
