Locusts sound
Most of us know. Still, I was looking weird at the pet store. After visiting the terrariums with all kinds of spiders, snakes, turtles and other interesting animals, I walked past a closet. There were all transparent plastic boxes, with holes pierced in them. The sound I heard was huge.
I couldn't miss it. When I looked closer, there were hundreds of locusts in those plastic boxes. Some were “fresher”, which were greener, and some were already a bit browner and did not move much. Some of them were dead. Of course, they're just delicious snacks, for the animals. Live animal feed. I had to let it settle for a while, but otherwise I couldn't do much with it. Well, they're living creatures, so it's pathetic?

Because of that little event at the pet store, I was wondering how the locusts can make exactly that sound. They call itThe stridulation. The sound makes the bugs with the hind legs, I knew that. Those hind legs have barbs, sort of teething. With it, the grasshopper rubs along its front wings. That rubbing makes the loud, chirping sound.
Again, it's the males who make the noise. They do so to attract the female's attention and lure them with their beautiful locusts music.

There's not much written on Yoors about locusts. But maybe it will. If you want to tell me anything about these creatures, let me know!
