Looking your best
Since I was little I’ve been having problems with my skin. I have had eczema since I was 4 years old. When I was 16 and after what felt like a million test and doctor visits someone recommended a specific dermatologist, who signed me up for uv-therapy. Basically I would stand in an upgraded tanning machine for a few minutes. This really helped my skin a lot. After doing this for about 3 months, at 3 times a week I was eczema-free and my eyebrows grew back. The eczema is manageable now, but in times with less sun it gets worst. After this I got into puberty and started to have other skin-issues, like pimples.
Why am I telling you about this? Because since I was little I’ve been dealing with skin-issues and in this world we live in, appearance is important. You can imagine that this gave me a lot of insecurities about my appearance. When I was old enough to do so, I started to use make-up to cover up these imperfections and I never stopped using it. Now make up is a part of my day. I love it and I love what I can do with it. Not just to cover up imperfections but also to express my moods or creativity through make up. I realize I'm not the only one dealing with skin issues and I just wanted to start talking about it and maybe share some things and tricks that help me when I have an outbreak of whatever.
First of all when it comes to eczema, in my experience, nothing helps for an itching feeling expect scratching. I know, I know, scratching will make it worst but nothing will make it go away anyway, so let me scratch or scratch for me. Either one will do. Ah and also cooling down your skin helps a bit too. Sometimes when my skin is irritated I use ice-cubes or a cold pack to calm the itching down.
When my eczema plays up again or my skin is irritated and gets red a lot, I also like to use silica gel. I keep this in my fridge so it is always cool, what feels good on my skin too. I find that applying this gel on my skin and leaving it there for about 10 minutes soothes my skin and helps with the redness and texture of the skin. As a body lotion I use coconut oil, which I wrote blog about too. This makes my skin feel soft and hydrated and it’s all natural. For really dry patches or broken skin I like to use vaseline. This works best for me to keep the dry skin moist and makes it feel more comfortable.
