#yoorslocalnews It was June 2014, after celebrating Father's Day, when the Aragua Fire Department received a call at 4:00 in the morning requesting support for a vehicle collision with a collective. As Caracas Firefighters came to the scene and when they arrived they heard someone say to them: “Guaro, help me!”. To his surprise, there were six of his companions, one died and the others were saved because they arrived on time.

This is one of the thousands of cases that Captain Mauricio Rodríguez remembers, the Highway Angels Road Restoration Brigade, located at the Altamira highway distributor in the capital city, has dealt with.

The group, better known as Ángeles de la Autostrada, was founded on November 8, 2013 to provide protection and medical service in the more than 600 kilometers of road arteries in Greater Caracas.

Rodríguez is the head of operations of the brigade, for whom psychological care is a fundamental recommendation to overcome shocking situations in his work.

The firefighter from Caracas also confessed that the most difficult cases to overcome are those involving children, pregnant women and the elderly. “In 2006, I attended a landslide with the result of a walled house, while I was removing the earth, a little hand came out that immediately opened and there was a fire truck in its palm. I managed to get the boy out and after the first aid, unfortunately it was too late for him,” he recalled.
