Small private investors, wealthy families and multinationals: all kinds of lenders benefit from caring for seniors. Investing in luxury villas for elderly people with dementia has increased enormously in recent years. Brochures promise returns of 7 percent or more. But what about the quality of care? This is part 2 of a series on care facilities for vulnerable elderly people.

In recent years, investments in real estate objects for the care, care and care of (wealthy) seniors have increased. In 2013, it was 100 million euros, and in 2019 it was already 1.25 billion euros.
Wealthy families such as Zeeman (textiles) and Bosman (transport) but also investment companies such as Value8 and Gilde Healthcare invest millions in private housing for elderly people with dementia.
Large French and Belgian listed companies acquired a significant share of the Dutch healthcare market through acquisitions.
Follow the Money examined the inspection reports of 16 private residential care companies. Thirteen of them had to take measures to put their care in order after a first round of inspection. Some companies take years to do that.
