Lyden - a meteorite rain on April 22, 2020- 'falling stars'
Lyric - Meteorites Rain
Popularly often called falling stars...
On Wednesday 22 April 2020 there is another swarm of meteors to observe! This time it's about the meteors of the Lyden. They are very bright and fast, and they sometimes even form perceptible fireballs, sometimes even with a smoke tail! At 11 o'clock the swarm is at its peak, but for us at 4:00 a.m. (i.e. Tuesday - Wednesday night) the view will be best. Look at the east-southeast at 60 degrees above the horizon.
The Lyrs were first observed 2600 years ago. The meteors come from the comet C/1861 G1.
Meteors are commonly referred to as falling stars, but in fact they are tiny pieces of stone and grit that enter the atmosphere at high speed and evaporate glowing. A meteor swarm is a collection of meteors that are visible in the sky at the same time and in the same area.
